So these days I am listening to a bunch of stuff. First of all, someone gave me a bunch of Pirate MP3 cds of Tigres del Norte, Pesado, Celso Piña and one of all Tejano Cumbias. Other than that I am really, really into Negami these days. Conjunto ORO too. And as always, Albert Zamora. His new one is pretty good.
Last week I was informed that Invasores de Nuevo Leon were playing a concert right here in my neighborhood in Monterrey. So over we went. Turned out that it wasn't them, they had just lent their stage and trucks and things for a taping of the program by that guy Jesus (don't remember his last name) who always say, "Si, SI, Si, que buena onda."
Anyway we got there in time to see the end of a performance by a group that I think was called, "Los Gallitos de Rio Bravo" or something like that. They currently have a minor hit with the Norteña version of the Sin Bandera tune "Que Lloro." These guys are MONSTERS. Absolutely fantastic. Norteña as it should be played. The 20 minutes of their show that I saw was WAY, WAY better than the whole Intocable show that I saw last year at the Palenque de Guadeloupe. These guys could go far. Then there was a tropical cumbia band and then Arnulfo Jr. He was OK. The ladies seemed to like him but the tunes weren't exactly over the top. Still entertaining. The whole show, which I paid 8 pesos for 4 people to see (80 cents) was obviously an incredible bargain for the price. HAHA. Stoney

Hey Everyone, Getting out of Mexico has totally expanded my horizons as far as Music is concerned. Listening to a whole lot of Classic music (Rock, Blues, Country etc.) is really waking me up to the possibilities that I never thought of before. My next big challenge is that I want to try to transpose the piano from Billy Joel's song NEW YORK FRAME OF MIND to the accordion. Lieten to the song. It is possibly the most harmonically perfect piece of music I have ever heard. Just georgeous. Also listening to these albums. Ry Cooder / Chicken Skin Music Ry Cooder / Showtime Both of these albums are great Tex Mex with Flaco Jimenez on about half of the tracks. Great swamp rock blues, tex mex on the rest. And I just got the Flaco Jimenez instructional video, cd and book. I will let everybody know how good it is, but it sounds great. Stoney

Thanks to reading your post a while ago, Stoney, I'm currently STUCK on 2 bands... not all the way big, but they're there... I looked into that group you mentioned (which by the way, is just called Los Gallitos) and their song "Que Lloro" only because the name Sin Banderas was mentioned. My homeboy just remade their song "Te Vi Venir" and the copy of that song that I got from their concert has been stuck in my head since I came back from home, so that got me interested in Sin Banderas. Once you mentioned that with Los Gallitos, I looked into them and got some of their songs, and they also have a remake of "Mi Historia enter Tus Manos" which is a song I also love. (I posted the Duelo Version of this song on here.) Now, this girl from back home gave me a CD of some band called Los Relampagos, from Houston, I guess... (She gave it to me because they were playing the first time we met, or some stupid crap like that... you know how girls do stupid crap like that... and me, being a man, of course, don't recall this, but anyways) I started listening to them too, and I only like 2 of their songs, one, which is ALSO a remake of a song by Sin Banderas... (Kilometros) So, right now, I'm stuck listening to those 4 songs... and I've been choosing to listen to them, over Intocable, and Pesado, the stuff I usually listen to, because they play more vocal songs, I guess... I don't know... I'm tending to listen to these 2 bands, and alot of Big Circo, too... I think they've got my attention (Big Circo) because they play traditional style, yet, they somehow make it a more modern message and sound to it... I'm actually impressed with their newest CD... There's also a funny ass song how he picks up on a guy, which he thought was a chick, until he saw "her" mustache... I guess it really happened, cuz I dont see any reason as to why someone would just make up a song about that, u know? But I really recommend to check out Los Gallitos, and Los Relampagos... they're the only thing I'm listening to know right now...

I gotta admit, I'm a sucker for a good looking girl... I don't know if any of you guys have heard of this new girl group (la Conquista), but to tell you the truth, they've impressed me... its a group of four girls, one plays the accordion, one the keyboard, the others 2 the bass and guitar... the drummers (drumset and congas) are guys, but they dont get recognized on the album or photo shoots at all, from what i heard. I saw a little clip of them on TV, interviewing them... I also saw them on the past tejano music award pictures, but I didn't know who they were, by the way they dressed, they look like a rock group. But regardless, they play pretty good. They mix different genres of music together, yet make a tejano song out of it. These girls are under the Emi latin label, and are managed by A.B. Quintanilla... the older one, not the kumbia king... If you want to here some new music, and have some eye candy to go along with it, check them out... they all look pretty good to me... I personally couldnt find anything on these girls online, a webpage or what not, but if anyone does find pix or anything, hit me up...

Hey Amaya, Check out www.laconquista.net. I know exactly what you mean about being a sucker for a good looking girl and this is the group to see. Talk about high energy throughout the whole show and some decent accordion playing. Well hope you like the website. andy
